READ ME FIRST

Post by fastjeff »

These boards and forums are meant for meaningful discussions about real topics.

If you made it this far, it means you know how to use gmail, how to register for online things, and how to peruse this board. We're going to assume you have the drive to continue learning, please familiarize yourself with the board rules below. If you have any questions, the best way to get a hold of people willing to answer is to join the ETC Discord server. The reason we're doing this is to up some of the technical knowledge on both ends of the spectrum. We want people to be comfortable with using online services and the many different alternatives for communications. The reason we started this one is it's one that we most understand. The more we teach, the more we learn. Our slogan is "If you're lost, build a road" and we'll do that when we can't find a solution.

Rules
  • Stay on topic
    • While it is easy to stray when discussions move along, we'll be using the "parking lot" method. If we are moving off topic too much, a new thread will be started to deal with this issue.
    • If you're top is relevant in another way, please start a new thread in the Parking Lot. This can only add to our knowledge base, that's what subcategories are for.
  • Stay objective, don't start pointing fingers
    • This will me a bannable rule if broken often after warnings. Yes, someone / some people, may have made a mistakes, but pointing at them and getting angry is not finding solutions. Work the problem, not the people.
    • In our search for answers, we may find that a solution may mean people are needed. Don't use this as an excuse to point fingers. If the issue is valid, parking lot. It is obviously an issue that merits further discussion.
  • We are looking for solutions, not answers
This can be a tricky one... an "answer" sounds like, that over there is broken, that's the reason why that thing can't happen. A solution sounds like.... That over there broke therefore we need to do this to solve that issue.
For example: Edgar was using a wheelbarrow to haul rocks, the handle broke on the wheelbarrow.
    • An answer: "Edgar broke the wheelbarrow and that's why we can't help move this wood for the fire."
    • A solution: "Since we can't use the wheelbarrow and we need to move the wood over there, let's see if we can find a replacement wheelbarrow or maybe use a pickup to do it. Then we need to fix the wheelbarrow. Maybe Edgar can handle that, we'll ask."
